As the millennium was approaching a few young men were talking about the future, their own abilities and strengths, and the endless possibilities that life provided. Throughout the course of these talks the insight that nobody is forever young was established.

Robert Åström returned to Finland in 1996, after having lived and worked five years in Toronto, Canada, and continued working for and in the two continents a while, contemplating possibilities and alternatives. Then when Magnus Björkgren, a good friend and researcher at the Kokkola University Consortium Chydenius, introduced him to interRAI, an international research project and its software, the RAI program, Robert's interest was immediately evoked.

"I thought - this could be something"

– I began to think that this could be something. The number of elderly people is increasing and that causes a lot of challenges. How can we take good care of everybody? This was a completely new territory, there were no IT solutions whatsoever. What could I do to ensure that if I need assistance at some point in life the Finnish health system can provide the right kind of care at the right time to every elderly person? says Robert Åström, who has a Master's degree in automatic data processing.

That's how it all began. Raisoft Ltd was founded in 2000 and is still run by the same quartet as in the beginning: Robert Åström, CEO and Rune Hassel, Magnus Björkgren and Johan Boholm. In the early days there were only a few employees, a few IT-engineers who had gotten acquainted to the RAI-project during their college years. Now, somewhat 20 years later, some of these same engineers are still working at Raisoft.

Raisoft has grown steadily year by year. Today it is the market leader in Finland and Switzerland and employs over 40 people. Besides Finnish and Swedish, also English, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, French and Polish can be heard in this international company.

Raisoft provides software to measure an individual's functional performance as well as quality and effectiveness of care. The software is used in multiple care settings, for example in home and long-term care for elderly, in mental care for all ages, in assistance for the physically impaired and in preventive care. In Finland RAI is monitored by the National Institute of Health and Welfare. A very important part of the operation is the consultant service provided by experts. The goal is always that collected data should be interpreted and utilized as well as possible – for the benefit of the clients and employees. We don't want to provide our clients the big fish, we want to teach them how to fish.

"Wellness in three minute portions"

During the last few years prevention has become increasingly important. When you address things early on it is easier and more cost efficient to change them and the results are usually better. Stemming from this thought a new product was created: Smart Break, a cloud based work wellness solution that inspires two three-minute activity breaks at the office. It all began as an in-office idea but became a spin-off and a new product.

Raisoft's network grows constantly. Co-operations and clients are not only found in Finland and Switzerland but also in Singapore, Spain and Australia. All in all Raisoft has emerged in nine countries and in nine languages across the world. In Finland all the major cities are Raisoft's clients, not to forget the private corporations.

The goal is clear: to grow steadily, to help organizations develop their know-how by providing expertise advise and to produce new innovations for the social and health care field so that the right care can be given to the right person at the right time.
